In this post, I'm going to share a few more design styles that caught my eye. Maybe it's just me, but in the summertime when the sun is shining, I feel more energy to putter around the house and see what I can do to make it more homey, and more importantly, a happier place to live. There's so much uncertainty in this world right now that all I want is a place that I can feel is truly me. And I feel very blessed that there's so many options to choose from!
1. Eclectic modern style

If you're like me, who can't make up my mind as to what I like because I like everything, then eclectic may be for you! Think hello maximalism and goodbye minimalism! Mix and match contemporary pieces with vintage and retro elements, juxtapose different textures and finishes, and contrast a variety of colors and shades. Love shopping in thrift stores? Can't ever return from your travels without having picked up a piece that caught your eye? Then this style is perfect for incorporating all the things you love. Honestly, the sky's the limit. Now, having said that, you do have to be careful that it doesn't end up looking too cluttered or random. Repeat a few elements throughout, like the same color, texture, or shape, to keep things cohesive.
2. Modern farmhouse style

Welcoming, unpretentious, and laidback. Those are the words that immediately come to my mind when talking about modern farmhouse style, and I couldn't think of any better adjectives for a home! Grounded in a comfortable and relaxed farmhouse style (think earthy palettes and natural wood accessories), but upgraded with modern elements like stainless steel and granite. I think my favorite part of this style is its emphasis on keeping the look light and airy. In addition to being pleasing to the eye, I think it does wonders in keeping you mentally relaxed and calm. I find myself getting the winter blues once in a while, so anything that keeps them at bay for as long as possible, I'm in!
3. Bohemian style

Bohemian style is another that I would love to try out because of its emphasis on keeping things light and airy. Characterized by nature-inspired elements, it's an ideal choice for those who love green plants, and wicker furniture and accessories. If you don't have much of a green thumb, no worries, you can incorporate that element through the use of floral and leafy prints on your cushion covers or throws for instance. And of course, how can we forget about those ubiquitous macramé wall hangings and hanging plant holders? If you love arts and crafts, try making your own! There are lots of free tutorials online.
4. Romantic French country style

Inspired by the French countryside, this style is a beautiful combination of relaxed country elements, and refined details such as crystal and gold accents. Have an antique white dresser that you inherited from your grandmother? It'll work wonderfully with this style, as the emphasis is on a light, neutral color palette such as white, beige, or gray. But love mauve or taupe as well? Absolutely! This style also lends itself well to the incorporation of soft pastels. Florals are a must, but instead of extravagant displays, think bunches of purple lavender, pink peonies, or light blue hydrangeas casually arranged in a pitcher-style vase. Magnifique!
5. Dark and moody style

If Edward Cullen and Bella Swan ever decided to redecorate their home, this is probably the style they'll go for! The complete opposite of light and airy, it instead oozes mystery and intrigue. Think dimly lit rooms with rich, deep colors. But don't forget to add finishing touches like cushions in luxurious textures such as vegan leather or velvet, or faux fur rugs, in lighter, but still complementary colors. Or perhaps tasteful decorative pieces in gold or silver. You want the space to be inviting, not scary! To really make this style work, you'll likely need to paint your walls dark too, so definitely a style you'll want to think about carefully before you commit to it!
Don't you find that many times, the planning part of any potential project is the most fun? Hopefully I've given you more ideas to add to your idea board! What other styles are you considering? Let me know below!
