Hi, I'm Juneau and I'm Carly's cat! For those who don't know yet, she's the Social Media Manager for ModernTurtle.com. You may have seen some of Carly's posts mentioning me, but I don't think I've been properly introduced. I'm almost 9 years old, full of mischief, and totally lovable. For the first year of my life, I was fending for myself on the streets. Luckily, some very nice people rescued me and Carly took me home shortly afterwards.
Fast forward to now, and I think I finally have Carly trained even though she still messes up once in a while. It took a while though before she finally figured out how I like my home set up. So to save you all a bit of time, here's my 5 tips for an ideal home from a cat's point of view!
1. Cardboard boxes are fabulous

Carly has a really good friend called Emma. Emma must really like me too, because she sends me cardboard boxes as presents. Every once in a while I'll hear Carly yelling that something came from "Emma Song." I've never met Emma, but she must be really nice, because she puts a smiley thing on all the boxes. I hope she comes and visits soon.
Anyhow, Carly used to recycle all the boxes because she didn't think they looked very nice in the house. But when she saw how much I loved them (I would run and sit in them as soon as she took out all the useless stuff from inside the boxes) she now keeps the pretty ones and leaves a few around the house so that I can go and play in them whenever I feel like it.
2. I love all my beds

Note, multiple beds please! I really don't know why Carly has only that one bed. It doesn't make napping very convenient. Maybe that's why she doesn't nap as much as I do.
I love napping near Carly when she's working, on top of the bookcase, next to the window, at the foot of the bed, under the desk . . . oh, I guess I have lots of favorite spots! Anyhow, I don't need fancy schmancy cat beds everywhere. Just one or two that have a cover so that I can crawl in and feel warm and safe when it's a little chilly or I'm feeling insecure (we all have bad days). The rest can just be folded up towels or blankets and I'll be perfectly happy.
3. You need Netflix, I need the window

Carly should save her money and just look out the window with me. I mean, watching our neighbor scooping up their dog's poop, those crows pecking at our lawn and driving grandpa bananas, what more entertainment do you want?
Perching on the window sill is OK I suppose. But what I really love is a tall cat tree right next to the window so that I can sit there nice and high and judge everyone and everything (honestly, that golden retriever across the street can really use a bath). Plus, I can take a nap, but still keep an eye out and protect my territory in case Mittens from the house next door starts getting ideas in her head.
4. Multiple food and water bowls please!

In the beginning, Carly had only one food bowl and one water bowl for me downstairs. Um, hellooo? Are you really going to make me go all the way down there just for a sip of water? She's now finally realized that I'm much more likely to drink water (which helps prevent kidney disease) if it's where I can see it all the time. So now I have both a water bowl downstairs and one upstairs where I spend most of my time with Carly.
Carly also has a special treat bowl for me upstairs! I love those treats that come in those funny tube things, but Carly makes such a mess (of course, it's never my fault). So she now squeezes those tube things into a bowl and I lick it up that way. Much easier if you ask me.
5. Scratching posts and boards everywhere

I don't just want to scratch – I NEED to scratch. It keeps my nails nice and healthy. But having just one scratching post or board is like Carly with just one pair of shoes. Not gonna happen! Now Carly has them all over the house for me. There's scratching boards, scratching posts, slanted ones, and my favorite, a huge one that I can actually lounge on. I call it my mini sofa.
As you can see, I'm totally easy to please. I just wish Carly looked at things from my point of view sooner – it's my home too. But it's alright, I'll still keep her.
BTW, Carly helped me type this up. It's kinda hard to type when you have no thumbs for the space bar. But since I'm so fabulous, I'm sure I'll figure it out one day.

About Juneau
Juneau is the Chief Feline for ModernTurtle.com and lives with Carly Dawson, the Social Media Manager. She loves having human friends over so that she can silently judge them. When she's not napping, she likes to amuse herself by pushing things off the table to see Carly's reaction and she allows Carly to think that she owns her when really, we all know it's the other way around.
