I'm super excited to share with you my new series of posts aimed at providing home décor ideas inspired by stunning cafés and restaurants located around the world! Like many of you, I love scouring the internet for home décor ideas. But I don't limit myself to just homes – cafés and restaurants are such a rich source of inspiration as well. And they don't have to be just for the kitchen and dining room. I can modify the ideas to suit any room I want.
Like most of you, I enjoy a cup of java every day. When I think about what places I want to travel to, I always include a list of potential cafés to visit. I also love to eat, so a list of restaurants is also a must. While I don't know when I'll actually get to go, it's so much fun just looking at photos online and dreaming about my future trips. That's what gets me through a hard work week!
My plan is to choose a different city in the world for each post in this series and share with you 5 cafés and restaurants that I would love to visit. I'll then share what home décor inspirations I get from each and what I would try to do at home.
So first up, where tea seems to be more famous than coffee – London, England!
1. Peggy Porschen
I mean, just look at this. This is probably the prettiest café I've ever seen. Sure, I know pink and flowers aren't everyone's cup of tea (sorry, I couldn't resist!), but there's definitely ideas that are more subtle and toned down.
For the bedroom, if I have a lighter colored bedspread, I think beige and light pink cushions with different textures would look so pretty together. And I would take inspiration from the wicker basket on the bicycle and add some wicker or rattan items to my desk or shelves, like a pencil cup. If I'm really going for the same look, then definitely a pink miniature potted rose in a white pot!
For the kitchen, I see pink flower-shaped plates or bowls. Using them with gold colored utensils would be a perfect fit. Can you imagine how pretty it'll be if you use them to serve strawberry shortcake?
2. Brasserie of Light
I'm not sure I can stop gawking at this if I'm eating right below it! I don't have the room to put a 24-feet crystal Pegasus inside my house, but this does show how important it is to make sure certain items stand out in a room. I think having something that catches your eye just makes the room look a lot more interesting. Vases that have a unique sculptured look work very well. But it could also be cushions that either have a very unique texture or wild and colorful prints. It doesn't have to be expensive artwork. And I bet those will end up being your favorite items!
3. The Berkeley (Il Giardino)
The orange and green makes me happy just by looking at it! I'll probably leave the cushions outside for patio dining, but I can still bring these same colors inside the house. I think this combination is especially suited for the kitchen. I see myself having a couple of green herbs in orange pots, and maybe some green tea towels. And I'll really play around with my plates and bowls. I'll make myself a plate of spaghetti carbonara, serve it on a bright orange plate, have a glass of sparkling wine, and imagine myself in Italy!
It seems though, that The Berkley refreshes their décor every season, so their décor may have changed by the time you read this post. Hmm, refreshing your décor every season? What a great idea in itself!
4. Aubaine
Another absolutely gorgeous restaurant. What I love most about their design is the combination of white, light gray and lavender. That's definitely a color scheme that I can use in my living room. Have a light gray sofa or couch? Throw on some all white textured cushions and mix it up with a printed gray and white one (got that idea from that beautiful print on the floor!). And I think having a bunch of real lavender in a tall white vase will be an awesome way to add that purple color.
I also think trying different shades and matching dark purple with gray would also be stunning. I can see a pile of nicely folded fluffy dark purple, gray and white towels in my bathroom. Both functional and pretty!
5. Greenwich Grind
Ooh, that blue teal color! If I have a bathroom with dark walls and white sink and toilet, I will definitely add towels in that color. And if there's enough room, a small green potted plant in a white pot. So simple, yet so elegant.
If purple or lavender isn't your thing for the living room, then a white, light gray and blue teal combination will also look great. The best thing about having a neutral colored sofa or couch is that all you need to do is switch out your cushion covers and voila, a fresh new look!
Did you also notice how their design uses black? That's something I need to try more often. You usually think of adding pops of color, but a pop of black can be really striking (I'm thinking industrial chic vibes). A set of black vases would be outside my normal comfort zone, but would look stunning with this color combination.
I hope you've enjoyed reading this as much as I have writing it! Have you actually been to any of these cafés or restaurants? What city should I virtually explore next? Let me know!
